"Dr. Eugene Charles has been one of the premier instructors of Applied Kinesiology (AK) for over three decades. Not only is he a phenomenal instructor but also a consummate clinician. This is a work that should turn heads and stimulate a genuine interest among primary care clinicians across all disciplines. The only people who will be more excited are those suffering from ailments that have not been helped by allopathic and traditional therapies. Applied Kinesiology offers a real alternative." Kamau Kokayi, MD-Yale School of Medicine (82)

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is the science of healing the total person and supporting his or her true health through the study of movement and integral muscle function. Recent evidence has identified muscles as organs that secrete hormones. According to some experts-muscles are the largest organs in the body and this may help to explain how applied kinesiology therapeutic procedures can produce such dramatic results.

Patients often visit an AK specialist after they have run the gamut of traditional medical professionals with little or no success. AK specialists take the time to do an extensive interview with each patient to assess his or her concerns regarding their health. They review the results of any standard tests the patient has undergone. Then, by observing how a person moves and subsequently testing various muscles by hand that are linked to a particular condition or symptom, the Applied Kinesiologist can create a unique treatment plan to alleviate the underlying dysfunction and restore the patient to health.

Current estimates suggest that 1,000,000 practitioners worldwide are using some form of AK manual muscle testing, and as more and more patients and medical professionals become aware of its benefits-this number will continue to climb. As its benefits become more mainstream, it is only a matter of time before Applied Kinesiology takes its place as one of the most effective healthcare disciplines in the world today.

Actually, Journey To Healing is not so much about applied kinesiology as it is about you and how your body truly works. These real-life stories give hope to anyone suffering from conditions that have not been alleviated by conventional therapies. This book is meant to expand your understanding about what is possible. AK allows your doctor to instantaneously connect with your physiology and communicate at a level thought to be "impossible." As you read along, you will learn from these real-life stories that there is no such thing as impossible and that-whatever the body has created, the body can cure. Your journey to healing can begin today.

Praise for Journey to Healing

"This is an interesting and engaging book for readers who are on the lookout for alternative ways to heal themselves." Readers Favorite

"Applied Kinesiology helped get rid of my crippling leg pain. Much like a musical composition I work on, I can hear and feel what needs addressing in specific octaves; in the hands of a skilled chiropractor using Applied Kinesiology, the doctor can see and feel what needs to be addressed to restore a patient to feeling strong again. And it's better for your soul, body, spirit and mind than drugs! Journey To Healing puts this empowering information at your fingertips." Herb Powers, Jr. Grammy Award winning engineer, Powers Mastering, Inc

"This is an eye-opening look into the world of Applied Kinesiology(AK). Understanding and correcting muscle functionality as 'a proactive approach to health rather than a reactive response to disease' is key in this practice. AK is a holistic approach to improving health, decreasing stress, and relieving pain. The stories of real people are a testimony to the life-changing techniques of AK." Manhattan Book Review

"Dr. Eugene Charles has been teaching Applied Kinesiology for over 30 years, and is the perfect expert to explore Applied Kinesiology's vast potential as a growing member of the integrative medicine pantheon in Journey to Healing: The Art and Science of Applied Kinesiology. The result is a thorough survey of the promises of Applied Kinesiology that is an integral, successful exploration highly recommended for physicians and patients alike. Its detail and accessibility makes it a top recommendation for any consumer health library." D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

"Applied Kinesiology's time has truly come! Hopefully, practitioners will heed the call to study this compelling book and this groundbreaking modality that utilizes a broad spectrum of noninvasive diagnostic and treatment protocols to restore maximum function to your body." Carolyn Dean, MD, ND, author of The Magnesium Miracle

About the Author

A sports injury as a teenager ended any athletic dreams young Gene Charles had. No one was able to diagnose the reason for his shoulder pain. Doctors of chiropractic had helped him with other injuries but could not help this one. He went to chiropractic school primarily so he could help others and secondarily, with the hope of finding the answer to his painful shoulder problem. However, in his second year of school he was still in pain. Fortunately, Dr. George Goodheart-who discovered a system of using movement and muscle testing to diagnose and treat health problems-was giving a seminar nearby. He was amazed how much Dr. Goodheart knew and after the lecture he asked him about his shoulder. After watching Gene move and testing a few muscles, he immediately uncovered the underlying cause of his pain, and in a few months he was healed. It changed Gene's life. The integrative medicine system Dr. Goodheart developed is Applied Kinesiology (AK). Since that fateful day in 1985, Dr. Eugene Charles has gone on to treat thousands of patients and teach over 1,200 doctors from many different specialties the art and science of Applied Kinesiology. However, despite his best efforts-along with those of other teachers throughout the world-very few people know about Applied Kinesiology. Dr. Charles' motivation to write Journey To Healing is to rectify this lack of familiarity, as well as to clarify any misinformation that has circulated about it. Actually, Journey To Healing is not so much about applied kinesiology as it is about you and how your body truly works. This book is meant to expand your understanding about the incredible healing potential you have inside of you.

Great book about AK from Great Experiences
I am so excited to see this book coming out. From musculoskeletal aspect like knee pain to visceral/hormonal disorder like hyperthyroidism to neurological dysfunction like ADHD, this book really opens my mind. Think about the stereotype of chiropractic, neck pain and lower back pain are somehow the only problems that chiropractors can deal with. However, now we know AK, as a natural comprehensive branch of healthcare, can help people in so many ways. To people who think this book is not for a layperson, I think this is the book guide you into this fantastic AK world, to give you the idea that except of giving you just pain killers or receive orthopedic surgery, you have this natural healthcare out there and you just don’t know about it yet.Let me tell you a joke may give you some idea. A guy is praying to God, “Dear God, please make me rich. I am your devout believer and I pray every single day. But why am I still so poor? Please do something save me from this miserable life.” The God says, “I want to help you, my son. I really do. But please at least go buying a lottery ticket!”Here I want to say, if you think this book is too much for you and you really want to know what AK is and what AK can do. PLEASE at least find a AK doctor nearby and just GO TALK TO THEM.

JOURNEY TO HEALING, if one can get through it, makes a very convincing argument for the validity and usefulness of Applied Kinesiology. Now that I know about it, I would personally be happy to see an AK practitioner in the future if I have any serious conditions.

However, I'm not really sure who this book if aimed at. While it is technically well written (clearly the author is both highly intelligent and very knowledgeable about AK), the style of the book starts out almost textbookish, with lots of detail about the evolution of AK as a practice (including who talked to whom about it and when, etc.), and then the bulk of the remainder of the book is case studies. These thoroughly (and I would say exhaustively, but that would be hyperbole) demonstrate AK's usefulness for everything from hyperthyroidism to knee pain to ADHD. It's all very impressive, but it also doesn't teach any of the techniques that are referenced.

The textbooky elements along with the lack of actionable information makes me think it's not really for a layperson--those of us looking for our next "alternative" self-healing modality--despite a cover that looks sort of "new agey." And that's fine! Since AK is a bonafide medical specialty, I accept that its techniques shouldn't just be taught in a book, but instead, with oversight and rigor. But JTH also doesn't seem to move medical practitioners closer to being able to use AK either, which means I'm just not sure where it fits into the scheme of things.

Dr. Charles has put together a comprehensive look at Applied Kinesiology's history, science, development and detailed case studies all to show what is possible with AK. As a practitioner of AK for 20 years, I personally love this book. For those patients who are interested in understanding how this technique can help such a diverse range of health issues, this book does a great job of teaching about AK in an approachable way. In particular, I like the level of detail in the case studies. Dr. Charles covers everything from orthopedic issues to endocrine disorders. He gives a good explanation of what is going on inside your body and a realistic time frame in which that person can achieve a higher level of health. Certainly if you are dealing with a particular health issue profiled in this book you will be glad each case study is so detailed.

I have had this book in my waiting room for several months and recently a teenage girl took it home. She was hoping to understand how we were able to help balance her hormones based on the information gained through Applied Kinesiology testing. She made a presentation to her class about AK and how it helped her. She had always wanted to be an MD. She still does but now she wants to be an MD who uses AK!

Thanks for helping my patients understand the process Dr. Charles!

As a professional patient, I can say from experience that this book is a breath of fresh air. The reason this book works is because the author, Eugene Charles, flawlessly takes us through the history and rise in popularity of Applied Kinesiology (AK), as well as recounting his own life-changing experiences with it. He delves into how AK has shaped him as a medical professional and how he has brought his love and knowledge of AK to his patients. Through sharing with his readers direct examples of how AK has helped his patients’ various ailments and injuries, we get to see exactly what AK is all about and how it could help us, too. The language Charles uses throughout the book is accessible and he goes to great lengths to make the content of his book easy to understand and relatable.
This book is not only a great lesson in AK for those who are intrigued and want to know more, but it is also educational and supportive for those folks who have hit a wall with their own respective treatments. Charles by no means tried to sell us on his own brand of ‘woo’, but lays out very scholarly and logically exactly what AK is, where it came from, how it can help everyone, and why it works.

Dr. Charles has written a stellar guide to Applied Kinesiology. As a patient, whose been treated by AK doctors for years, I’ve never until now been able to explain Applied Kinesiology simply to my friends and how it works. "Journey to Healing” is a very thoughtful, and complete work. Bravo!!
